Routine Maintenance
Over a period of time dirt and dust of many types can build up in the optics of Linotronics and very gradually degrade the output of the image on to the film. At first this goes un-noticed, but there comes a point when plates are not being produced correctly. The density may be too light. There could be fuzzy light lines running down flat tints. Possibly the machine stops working.
The Herkules needs a clean supply of compressed air for the scanning mirror motor bearings. Dust and moisture will damage the air bearings and quite possibly the driving electronics. A very costly repair! The compressor needs regular routine servicing. The electronics of all machines need a good supply of cooling air flow to avoid overheating.
